Birmingham guitar teacher, Anthony Pell has taught over 500 guitar and bass guitar students using his diverse musical experience to tailor individual lessons for students of all ages and levels from beginners to advanced guitarists.

Anthony is driven to help people achieve their music and guitar playing goals whether it’s strumming a simple 3 chord song or learning to improvise over complex chord changes. He is dedicated to help students to practice guitar and study music as he himself is a practicing guitarist and student of music. Learning and growing as a musician is an ongoing journey that is part of Anthony’s life.

Anthony has written 2 guitar books now available on Amazon.com and through the website Learning To Play The Guitar which also includes free lessons and a YouTube channel with over 100 guitar lesson videos.

In early 2023 Anthony created a new beginner guitar course Beginner Guitar Chords: Easy Strumming and Picking available on Skillshare and Udemy.

He has a BA in music/arts from La Trobe University, Melbourne studying music theory, composition and sound engineering. He also has an Enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check to ensure safeguarding for children and younger students.

Influenced by a range of guitarists including Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page, Nuno Bettencourt, Eric Clapton, John McLaughlin and many more Anthony is always striving to develop his playing and musical knowledge further.

Anthony also teaches bass guitar and has been hired by many bands and artists due to his skills as a bass guitarist.

As a bass guitarist he is influenced by Flea (Red Hot Chili Peppers), James Jamerson, Paul McCartney, Jphn Paul Jones (Led Zeppelin), Jaco Pastorius, Stanley Clarke and many others. An experienced and diverse bassist Anthony plays funk, blues, jazz, rock, pop and Latin music.

Professional Experience

Bands & Groups

Anthony Pell has been playing guitar and bass guitar for over thirty years in several bands in his home town of Melbourne, Australia. Now he’s moved to Birmingham, UK and is involved in the local music scene playing bass guitar in Wired 2 Party entertaining audiences at public and private events. Anthony also plays guitar in the duo Deuawd Soul playing classic old school soul and blues tunes. In the duo he uses a Looper pedal to create rhythm backing tracks allowing him to play guitar solos and layer intricate guitar parts.

Apart from playing bass guitar he also plays double bass playing jazz, swing and rock n roll music. He has studied double bass with renowned Melbourne double bassist Tom Lee.

He has played with various jazz, cover, wedding and Latin bands plus many musical theatre and cabaret shows performing at well known Melbourne venues including The Paris Cat, The Night Cat, Federation Square, The Victorian Arts Centre and many others.

In musical theatre he’s played bass with singers Danielle Matthews, Nina Ferro, Matt Hetherington, Jeremy Standford (The Buddy Holly Story) and Silvie Paladino. In jazz he has performed with Jack Pantazis, Chris Cameron (The Rookies) and Adam Simmons.
